Why
do I need to scroll so much?
Why
does it take so long to download?
Why
don't all the photographs download leaving me with a cross in a box?

problem? Let us know. |
To view this site at its best your browser should occupy the whole
screen with features like 'Search', 'Favorites' and 'History' turned OFF and with your monitor's
screen resolution set to 1028 x 768 pixels (our page counter from www.statcounter.com tells us that this is the most common resolution for visitors to this
site). If your screen is set to 800 x 600 pixels you will need to scroll alot. I change my Windows 2000 screen resolution
by clicking on Start-Settings-Control Panel-Display-Settings and then
slide the pointer. One day this web site will auto-detect a visitors
screen resolution and make the pages fit perfectly on your screen but
at the moment this site is not that clever. We know how to do this but
are so busy we just haven't got round to doing it yet.
All photographs have been
carefully sized to minimize download time, however some are still necessarily
large and may take a while to download if you do not have a fast internet
connection.
Sometimes slow internet connections
with "dial-up 56K modems" cause some photographs not to download
resulting in a box with a small cross inside it. Clicking your browsers
"refesh" button will usually make these images download correctly.
We don't know for sure why this happens but think it is due to time-out
issues with slow internet connections. We are not aware of this affecting
Broadband visitors, if it does please let us know.
Some photographs are in Progressive JPEG format. This enables a photograph
to gradually 'materialize' on screen as it downloads. Some browsers don't
support the 'progressive' feature, these browsers download the photograph
completely before displaying it on your screen. |
