The legal stuff
This website was designed and coded by me. All wedding and portrait photographs on this website were taken by me (and a few by Caroline). All written content was created by me unless otherwise credited.
The copyright to the design of this website, all the photographs within it, and all written content belongs to me, trading as Decisive Image Photography.
The copying of photographs and/or written content used in this website is prohibited. The only exception to this is that small snippets of written content may be used if properly credited to this website and, if the reference is web based, a link is provided to this site.
I'm not a website developer
I get asked all sorts of things so before you ask me to design your website let me say categorically I'm a professional photographer, not a professional website designer, so I can't create a website for you. It would take me a year and a day just like this website did when I could find the time to work on it. I didn't know anything when I started this site beyond some basic HTML, I simply read lots of books and then started typing.
If you fancy dipping in yourself I found the following books particularly useful and I am happy to recommend them:
CGI Programming with Perl, O'Reilly, 2nd edition, 2000, by Scott Guelich et al, ISBN 1-56592-419-3.
Beginning CSS Web Development From Novice to Professional, Apress, 2006, by Simon Collison, ISBN 1-59059-689-7. Simon, the plot was just fine! One of the best written technical books I have read. Note to Apress: We need Simon to write more books.
PHP & MySQL Web Development for Dummies, Wiley, 2008, by Janet Valade, ISBN 978-0-470-16777-9. My first "dummies" book because usually I find them too basic but this one was just right for me and I'm not too proud to admit it.
Essential PHP Security, O'Reilly, 2006, by Chris Shiflett, ISBN-10: 0-596-00656-X, ISBN-13: 978-0-596-00656-3.
No state-of-the-art website editor like Dreamweaver or Frontpage for me, I used Wordpad, Notepad, and once in a blue moon Jed, on a laptop running Windows XP, Apache with PHP and Perl modules, and MySQL.
This is the second website I have written, going live on 14 Septempber 2008. My first website was the previous version of this photography site, written in 2001 soon after I first turned professional. It was much more basic, not enough books you see, although the lovely Caroline might beg to differ.
If you are a web design company thinking about offering your services, please note that I intend to continue developing this site myself, I am not looking to contract out.
Please send comments and suggestions to the address on the contact page and if you have got this far down the page I'm sorry there is no free pint of beer!
